The challenge

Compliance challenges in professional services.

01

Client-site deployments across states

A consultant at a client's office in another state, an architect running a site for six months, an audit team on assignment: each can trigger state obligations. PT, Shops & Establishments, Labour Welfare Fund and project registrations can follow the person, not just the firm. We map where your people actually work and keep registrations and deductions aligned.

02

Professional Tax and state variations

Slabs, rates, due dates and filing frequencies differ across states, and your people move between offices and assignments. One mistake repeated across a hundred staff becomes a serious correction.

03

Hybrid and remote knowledge teams

When a senior analyst works from another city or state, questions arise on registrations, PT and applicable labour rules. Hybrid policies must be reflected in payroll, not only in HR manuals.

04

Confidentiality of compensation data

Director and senior-staff compensation is among the most sensitive data a firm holds. Access should be tightly restricted, logged and defensible.

05

Multiple entities, one firm

Many firms run through an LLP, a private limited company and branches. Each carries its own registrations, filings and payroll obligations.

Who we work with

The people we support.

01

Consultants and analysts

Assigned to projects, often at client sites, with bonuses linked to utilisation or outcomes.

02

Chartered accountants, auditors and lawyers

Work deadline-driven cycles with intense peaks around closings, audits and filing dates.

03

Creative, architecture and engineering teams

Work campaign or project by project, with travel, site visits and project incentives.

04

Independent experts and freelancers

Bring niche skills on retainers or per-engagement terms alongside the core team.

Payroll, PF, PT, TDS and Gratuity: built for variable, high-value pay

Knowledge-firm payroll is rarely a flat salary. Bonuses arrive in cycles, allowances follow client assignments and reviews often happen mid-year. Each variable touches a statutory obligation.

  • Provident Fund (PF)

UAN and KYC, joiner and exit processing and monthly ECR filing. With the Labour Codes changing how 'wages' are defined, we help you treat allowances and bonuses consistently. We also check ESIC eligibility for support roles below the wage limit.

  • Professional Tax (PT)

Slabs, due dates and frequencies vary by state, and some states don't levy PT. We apply the right rules at every office, including staff on assignment in other states.

  • TDS on salary and perquisites

Monthly tax on projected income, declarations, proofs and Form 16 on time. Large bonuses and retention payouts are planned through the year to avoid year-end shocks.

  • Gratuity

We track service, calculate liabilities and help you plan funding, and advise on how the Labour Codes may change eligibility, including for fixed-term employees.

  • Incentives, bonuses and allowances

Utilisation bonuses, project incentives, retention payouts and travel or client-site allowances calculated per your policy, with working papers and a clear breakup for staff.

Independent experts and freelancers: clarity before conflict

Professional firms rely on outside talent: subject experts, freelance designers, retained counsel and project-based contractors. It's a strength, but it needs structure.

  • Worker classification

A freelancer who works fixed hours, uses your systems, reports to your manager and works only for you may look like an employee to an inspector. We assess each engagement, advise on the right model and document the reasoning.

  • Withholding on fees

Professional fees and contractor payments carry their own TDS rules. We verify the correct section and rate and keep documentation ready for audit.

  • Milestone and invoice-based payments

Clear payment schedules tied to milestones or deliverables, invoice checks and timely disbursement.

  • Periodic engagement reviews

Scheduled checks of long-running freelance engagements, so a 'temporary' arrangement doesn't quietly become a classification problem.
